Our story

Get to Know Us

The FLagstaff Youth RiderS (FLYRS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Flagstaff, Arizona. FLYRS was founded in April 2016 to provide a structured and team-oriented approach to mountain biking for youth. We began small with a few families in the spring of 2016, and have grown each season as the interest has expanded, serving almost 1,100 youth in 2025. We are excited and honored to work with families in our community who share our passion for the outdoors and whose kids want to break out of the mold of traditional sports programs. FLYRS programs facilitate independent learning and accomplishment, as well as group-based camaraderie and encouragement.

At Flagstaff Youth Riders (FLYRS), our mission is simple: to get kids outside and on bikes with coaches who care.

We believe every child deserves the chance to experience the joy, confidence, and freedom that comes with riding a bike. That’s why we work to remove barriers to the sport by offering 100% free scholarship programs and free after-school riding opportunities within Flagstaff Unified School District schools.

Our programs focus on more than just riding skills. Through mountain biking, kids learn resilience, teamwork, and respect for themselves, others, and the trails. With the guidance of trained coaches, we create an encouraging environment where riders of all abilities can grow — whether they’re just learning to ride or preparing for competitive racing.

Our Why

What Makes Us Different?

Access for All – Free scholarships and programs ensure financial barriers never keep a child from riding.

Coaches Who Care – Certified coaches serve as mentors, focusing on safety, character, and fun.

Community Driven – Parents, teachers, sponsors, and trail advocates power FLYRS with their support.

Healthy Futures – Biking builds fitness, confidence, resilience, and lifelong outdoor connections.

Since day one, FLYRS has grown into a movement—helping thousands of Flagstaff youth discover the thrill of mountain biking and the strength within themselves.

Every kid deserves to ride. At FLYRS, we make that happen.
