School based Programs
FLYRS is partnering with local schools to provide school based programs as part of our commitment to eliminate barriers to cycling and ensure more kids have access to our programs.
This year we will offer programs at Puente De Hózhó, Killip, Marshall, STAR, and MEMS schools. You can register for these programs below. Please only register if you aren't currently enrolled in a FLYRS program to ensure more diversity in our programs. We are always looking to partner with schools who want to help us develop youth through cycling. Please contact our School Program Manager Hannah Hendrickson if you would like to have a program at your school. |
Marshall (3rd-5th Grade)
If your child is interested in exploring the coolest parts of their neighborhood on a bike, this group is for them! We focus on key bike handling skills in a controlled environment (proper braking, gearing, and riding on dirt trails.) Participants in this group will learn about trail stewardship, basic bike maintenance, and explore trails and bike-friendly areas near the school. 3rd/4th: This group will focus on the most basic bike handling skills, including: How to brake safely, gear usage, and working up to ride the easiest areas in the neighborhood. They will experience basic jumps at school, plus the opportunity to explore dirt jumps near school property. 4th/5th: This group will broaden the focus and skill application of the 3rd/4th grade group, including: How to ride safely in the neighborhood, ride more advanced jump features near school, and longer/more difficult trail rides. Spring 2025 Schedule:
Killip (3rd-5th Grade)
This group is designed to keep students riding bikes safely in the community for grades 3-5. We cover: how to hand signal, riding safely on roads, key bike handling skills (braking, gearing, maneuvering), plus play games focused on fundamentals. This group will ride off-campus to nearby bike trails/park in the community. Spring 2025 Schedule:
MEMS (6th-8th Grade)
The MEMS group works on building key bike handling skills while accessing some of Flagstaff's best trails and the FLYRS/Puente bike park. The park contains drops, skinnies, a pump track, skill zones and flow lines built by Flagline Trails & the FLYRS community. We make time for skill-related games and snacks while on trail, or before/after a trail ride. Riders must be able to control their speed on hills and ride a minimum of 3 miles on singletrack bike trails. All skills will be assessed before riding the bike park (skill dependent). Spring 2025 Schedule:
